11.04.2025 to 28.04.2025
This trip we took the college of Janina (Jasmin) with us to our Holiday around Scotland.
We all finished the day of work before Janina and Jasmin took the train directly from Karlsruhe to the Airport. I stopped shortly at home in Langen and took the bus to the Airport. Here we met at the terminal and went to security. We waited in the biergarten and had dinner. One hour and thirty minutes later we arrived pretty late in Edinburgh. a 20 minutes UBER ride later we arrived in our small apartment, where we finally went straight to bed.
11.04.2025
For breakfast we walked to a little Restaurant where we had a typical Scottish breakfast.
At 11:00am we did a free walking tour which was super fun. She showed us a lot of old Edinburgh. For lunch we stopped at a pub and we were even able to sit outside so warm and sunny it was. Thereafter we visited Victoria street and Edinburgh castle from the outside. The last stop was Princes Park and from here we took the bus back to the apartment. We rested for some time and went to a pub next door for dinner, beers and some Nachos
12.04.2025
We started the day with breakfast outside in a small cafe. It was a bit cold but nice. From here we walked 40 minutes to the Market. because we all felt a bit cold and needed a toilette we stopped in a starbugs. We continued later to see the Dean Village, Princes Street Park and St. Giles Cathedral. The last one had beautiful old Windows. For Lunch we stopped in a Pub. The last stops were to the House of Parliament and Calton Hill where we had a good view around Edinburgh. At the end of the day we went to the same pub as the day before and had dinner, beer and live music.
13.04.2025
This morning it was super rainy. We took the bus to the center and had breakfast in a very small cafe with delicious self made bread. Due to the rain we went into Edinburgh Castle where we spent some time. In the Castle was a cafe with a nice view over Edinburgh where we had tasty cake and tea to warm up a bit. Thereafter we went again to Victoria Street and a shopping center and bought souvenirs. For Lunch we went into a Pub that the Tour guide recommended. The pub was quite old and cozy. After the long day with rain we stayed for some time. From here we took the bus home. short grocery stop at a German Supermarket.
At home we played some games and packed our backpacks for the next day.
14.04.2025
We woke up early. took the Tram to the Airport where we picked up our rental car at 09:00 am. A Ford Puma looked a bit big but was at the end just right for us. The first few km were a bit strange to drive again on the other side, especially with a manual car… but then it was alright. We drove north bound over the huge suspension bridge and stopped an hour later in a small village in a cafe for breakfast. It was more a coffee rosthaus than a cafe so we had only a tiny table in the back of the cafe but the food and coffee was super delicious. From here we enjoyed the scenery of Scotland on the way to Loch Ness. Beautiful hills in such different colors. Shortly before Lochness we stopped at one of the many water gates where we had Burger outside in the Sun. still a bit cold but beautiful weather. We watched some boats going through before we continued to Invaness. some view points on the way where we stopped. In Invaness we did quite some grocery shopping for the next few days and drove the last 50 minutes to Ullapool. Here we booked a Hostel because we had only one night. After check in we enjoyed some Burger, Pizza and Pasta in a lovely restaurant with a view into the Bay. A short walk around “Town” before we went to bed.
15.04.2025
Since it was the cheapest option for one night in Ullapool, we chose that Hostel. We had to sleep separately in an 8 bed dorm. In my room I had probably 5 guys who snored like hell! I ended up with approximately 2 hours of sleep and at 03:00 am I packed everything and went down stairs to sleep on the sofa in the common room. What was actually very cold…Worst night ever in a Hostel. Janina and Jasmin woke me up early since we booked the 08:00 am Ferry to Lewis & Herrys Island. We drove on the ferry and enjoyed a quite smooth 3 hour ride to the Island. In Stornoway we stopped at a restaurant for lunch. From here we drove a few minutes to our AirBnB in the middle of nowhere. A big house with two floors and lots of space. The view from here is stunning. Since we still had a bit of time , we visited some old stone circles close by and returned back home. Unfortunately the host isn’t answering our messages that the heating wasn’t on and we didn’t know how to turn it on. for the stove the wind was so strong that it always turned off… so we had hot soup and went to bed early because it was quite cold.
16.04.2025
A beautiful Sunrise woke us up. For breakfast we made Pancake. It's still quite cold but the landlord sent us instructions to turn the heater on. We drove along the coast, stopping for Alpacas, Cows and viewpoints along the way to an old Stone House village. We did a walk along a beautiful sand beach for some time, where cheapest and cows walked along and visited the Lighthouse in the very North of the Island. watched the waves and enjoyed the weather. Janina found a small cafe/ wool shop for lunch where we had just cake and tea. On the way home we stopped in Stornoway for groceries (again). Back home we turned the stove on, played games and had pasta and beer for Dinner.
17.04.2025
This morning we used to wash some clothes after breakfast. enjoyed the view from the house before we started a long day. Janina drove for a few km to a beautiful white sand beach with blue water, the street was most of the time a one lane street with a few passing points and lots of curves around the hills. We walked 2km on the beach up and down and took a big breath of fresh air. From here we drove quite some time to the smaller island of Harrys, on the way we stopped a couple of times on viewpoint. On Herry’s we went to a spot where we saw a lot of seals. We enjoyed some time watching them before we headed back home. For dinner we made wraps and again packed our backpacks for the next part.
18.04.2025
At night we could hear heavy rain. When we woke up it didn't change and it was not supposed to…we enjoyed a relaxed breakfast, cleaned the house and loaded the car up.
Shortly before arriving at the ferry terminal I got a message that the ferry will be delayed by 3 hours due to the weather. At the village by the terminal was a small cafe which was super crowded due to all the people who wanted to go on the ferry but we found a table and had a second breakfast. The ferry ride was quite smooth despite the weather. on the Isle of Sky we drove one hour to the new Place, a big caravan in a bay far north. beautiful view and cozy. nice and warm too. We enjoyed dinner and went to bed.
19.04.2025
We started the first morning on the isle of sky with a delicious Pancake Breakfast.the weather changed and we had an amazing view into the bay. close to our caravan is a light house where we drove to as our first step. On the way there were so many sheep that Janina had to get out of the car to get them off the street. looked professional… At the lighthouse we had a short hike along the cliff which was nice. From here we drove nearly 2 hours to the fairy tale pools. a beautiful landscape but also very busy. We hiked 3 hours along the hills right through the fields. Some parts were very muddy and all our shoes got pretty wet and dirty on the way. On the way back to our caravan we stopped in Portree, a small village where we had burgers and beer for dinner in an Pub in an old church. We did some groceries for the next few days and drove home from here. We enjoyed the rest of the evening with the beautiful view from the caravan.
20.04.2025
We woke up early and had a quick breakfast on the way to the old man of storr . We had to stop again at the supermarket, because we forgot some things… The hike at the old man of storr took us nearly 2 hours. beautiful scenery but also pretty busy. It is the most famous hike in Scotland I think. back at the car park was a cafe where we had Tea and Cake with a nice view. On the way to the next hike we stopped along the coast at some view points and enjoyed the scenery. We arrived late at the Quiraing and we were already a bit tired so we only did the small hike along the mountains. but the view was stunning. We thought that we should have done this hike first. From here we drove 1 hour back. We all took a long hot shower back home. Dinner and some relaxing before we packed our backs again for the next day.
21.04.2025
After breakfast we continued our journey through Scotland. On the way to our next accommodation we stopped at a famous old bridge on the island of sky and a Otter view point where we took a small walk. After we left the island of sky we stopped at the Eilean Donan Castle where we had a self made Lunch with a beautiful view on a lake and the castle. After another few hours driving and some viewpoints later we arrived in Fort Williams. Here we have a small house just for us. We can see Scotland's highest mountain, the Ben Nevis.
short grocery stop and early bed time after a long day.
22.04.2025
we woke up early to see the Hogwarts Express. We drove to the Glenvin viaduct ( the famous one from Harry Potter) and parked the car. We arrived nearly 2 hours before the train would pass this point to get a parking spot. We did a small hike along the railway to let time pass and took some pictures from the viaduct. Shortly before it was time it got super crowded at the view point. We watched the Train pass and went back to the car. We visited the coast village Mallaig where we had delicious cinnamon rolls and coffee for lunch. We walked around the village and continued to a beautiful White Beach close by. We enjoyed the Sun and the fresh air and stayed two hours on the beach. Back home we walked to the grocery store to buy some snacks and relaxed at the AirBnB before we had dinner.
23.04.2025
After Breakfast we drove a short distance from where we did a walk to a beautiful waterfall. Not far away was a visitor center from where people can start the hike to the top of Ben Nevis. We decided not to do that hike and instead walked 13km along a river. beautiful but not too spectacular. On the walk Jasmin fell and injured her hand and leg, luckily not too bad.
Back home we relaxed a bit, played some games and had pizza for dinner.
24.04.2025
We slept long, had a relaxed breakfast and packed our bags once again for the last part.
We drove to a soup factory where Jasmin and Janina bought some soup and souvenirs I think… Janina and I found a beautiful picture that was unfortunately not for sale in the store anymore so we had to order it online. Since they had a cafe next to the shop we enjoyed some cake and coffee. We also stopped in Fort Williams and walked along the main shopping street before we continued our drive. We stopped a couple of times along the road with amazing views of the Glencoe mountains. After nearly 4 hours driving we reached Stirling where we stopped at the castle and went to a pub in the city for dinner. Burgers beer for all of us. The Girls fell asleep during the long drive which made it even harder for me to stay awake.. but we made it. Only a short ride to Limekilns close to Edinburgh.here we had a very small accommodation and went straight to bed after this long day.
25.04.2025
On our last day we went out for breakfast to a cafe in the village. We enjoyed our time there before we drove to the Famous big red Bridge of Edinburgh. We walked a bit around and drove back home. chilled some time and packed our bags for the last time on this trip. For dinner we went to the local Pub where we enjoyed a few beers and Burgers. early night for us due to a very early flight.
26.04.2025
We woke up at 2-3 O Clock and drove to the Airport. The Plane took off by 6am and around 2 hours flight time later we arrived back in Frankfurt. Jasmin's Dad picked us up from the airport and drove us to our new apartment in Langen.
