Its just the beginning of 2021 the covid19 virus is still a big story. But Janina and i are missing to travel, so we decided to stay in Germany and hope that we can do our walk in the Summertime. At the moment it starts to getting better (covid19) and we have hope.

We planned already our rout of the Westweg and booked our Hotels for the way. 17 Day's from Pforzheim to Basel with around 285km total, and about 8000m altitude.

We got nearly everything (cloths and utensils) for the walk. in the next days we are going to pack the Backpack to see how all fits in there. only 4 weeks until we will start and i still didn't trained that much... next weeks i am going to walk as much as i can.

Yesterday i took the Train to Janina where we checked if we had everything and got our back backs finally ready to go.

Today we woke up at 6am and took the train to Pforzheim. we did already 4 km to the Starting point of the Westweg. we walked 27 km on the Westweg to Dobel. not so beautiful our first day. we had a few villages and roads on the way. but we arrived in Dobel at around 4pm totally done. feet's and muscles are hurting. we had a short nap (one hour) and after we had take away from a very delicious restaurant. early bad time.

from Dobel to Forbach. the weather did't looked so good for today but we started at 9am right after a rain shower. we had two drizzle shower on the way but we got good rain cloths and it was bit windy too so we dyed up pretty quick. today was already better with pretty much the whole time walking right trough the forest. at the end we had to walk 600m down to Forbach. we stayed in a small Hotel. we got already our first blisters. we finished the day with some cake on the balkony at the 3 floor with the evening sun in our faces.

26km for day two.

After a very delicious Breakfast we had to climb back around 600m altitude today. on the way a river dam and the lake. nearly on half way it started to rain. and it didn't stopped. we kept walking for an hour. and tried to dry a bit in a restaurant on the way. luckily they opened one hour earlier for us. after some time the rain chanced to drizzle and wee kept walking our last part. for today we made 22km but our feet's and muscles are hurting quiet a lot... we arrived in Utersmatt late the evening and stayed in a sky lift house.

at the 4th day started with heavy clouds. we started early because we had again 30km ahead of us. we kept climbing higher into the clouds. it got colder and more wet. we reached our first big lookout on this trip but unfortunately it was covered in clouds. the view was approximately 100m or less. we decided to wait a bit. so we had coffee and cake at the lookout but the weather didn't chance. afterwards we walked down to the Mummelsee where it got super busy with people (Sunday)... we decided to keep walking again because the weather looked again not that good. but that was a bit of a wrong thought. right in the middle of nowhere it started to Rain and we had a thunderstorm at the forest right above us... luckily it chanced quick back to cloudy and drizzle. we just had lunch at a beautiful lookout when the next rain shower was on its way. at half way for today we passed a small village where we had coffee and tee to warm up a bit and we decided to take the bus to our destination Knibis (still 14km away) we stayed at a very old Hotel with a strange but lovely charm. we also had our best dinner here.

14km for today only...

08.08.2021

today we had only 18km ahad of us. the man from the hotel brought us to our starting point. due to all the rain the path was often muddy and wet with big puddles where we had to find our own way trough or around. still we hiked fast and arrived at 1500 at our destination. the hotel owner picked us up because we are stayed in Obershammersbach 5km away from the Westweg, to much for us... we got a nice room with a beautiful view above the village. we chilled on the balcony in the sun before we had dinner in a standard cheap restaurant close by. Janina has so much blisters that she made the decision to take the train tomorrow, she can't walk anymore and need two days off.

17km for today

today the Hotel owner brought just me back on the track and i walked alone. not so much to see on this short trip to Hausach. two nice viewpoints only where i had long breaks and enjoyed the view down in the valley. at the end i had to walk steep down to my destination. but i made it. i arrived a few minutes before Janina in our Hotel in the city where we going to stay two days. in the evening we had Dinner with Sandro a guy we mat on the way. he is doing the half of the westweg and keeps going tomorrow.

17km for me

Today was our first resting Day. we slept in had breakfast. we decided to send cloths home because we caring to much that we don't need so we walked into Haussach to look for a parcel store. right after lunch time we took the train to Wolfach a nice tittle old town where we had "lunch/Cake time" in a cafe next to a river.

later on we drove back and went to the groceries store to bye some stuff for the next days to snack on the way.

8km for today

11.08.2021

first thing we did today was stopping at the Parcel store to send our parcel home. from there the hardest part of the trip began. something around 1200m uphill for a couple of hours. after 19km walking constantly uphill we arrived at a restaurant where we had something to drink and stopped for one hour. the last 4 km where easy just straight trough the forest without altitude. our hotel for tonight is a small old farmhouse right on the Westweg far away from anything else. its quiet and dark. the lady who runs the place is a bit strange but friendly. where meet a few new people who also walk on the Westweg. we walked 23km to the Silberberg, our hardest day so far.

12.08.2021

Silberberg to Kalteherberge. it was "easy" walk because we stayed on the altitude. it was not so nice today because we walked often close to the street. Janina has a lot of Pain in her feets and she couldn't walk really. but we made slowly to our destination. we had delicious dinner at the hotel. we had a nice evening with some other people who walk the westweg.

22km for today

13.08.2021

Janina took the Bus today to the Titisee and i walked. i did a personal speed record and made 21km in 3 1/2hours. at 29C. the way was not pretty. i walked a lot along a busy street and the last bit trough the city and arrived at midday at the Titisee where i met Janina. we had something to drink on the lakeside and lunch. we walked together the last part to Hinterzarten another 5km up and down. we staying in a old and fancy Hotel and hat dinner at a Italian restaurant.

we made the decision to stop the walk. i got also a lot of pain in my feet's during walking.

26km for me Today and 6km for Janina.

14.08.2021

we started the day with a long and delicious breakfast. than we took the train to Titisee and a bus up to the Feldberg. we walked the last bit uphill the Feldberg and enjoyed the few from Above. on the horizon where a massive Thunderstorm passing by. we walked the few km down to our last stop a small hotel on the walk in the forest. like nearly everyday we had cake and tea for lunch a good Dinner. at this place we didn't got phone connection or WiFi. that means two days silence.

10km at this last part on the Westweg.

15.08.2021

today was a break day so we slept in and had breakfast and went to bed again after. at midday we had a short walk around the Stübenwasen. it was pretty cold and dizzy so that we went after Lunch (cake and Tea) back to bed again. its so silence that we saw chamois (Gämse) around the place.

8km for our short walk.

16.08.2021

we woke up early had a quick breakfast and started walking downhill to Todnau. we had a stop at the Todnau waterfall and from here we took the Bus and a train to Basel. Janina's Uncle lives close to Basel we had a quick walk around the three country corner and got picked up. we had a really delicious dinner at his place and stayed the night.

17km our last big walk.

17.08.2021

the last day we woke up at 5am to take a early train back to Karlsruhe. we arrived at midday and started to clean the bag-packs and cloths. and relaxed for the rest of the day. in the Evening we went to a very good end excellent Steakhouse for dinner.

18.08.2021

Result of two weeks Westweg ( Blackforest):

we walked 195km on the Westweg and 260km in total in this time.

Made around 5300m Uphill and 4800m downhill.

we had heavy Rain days and Hot sunny days.

it was a absolute amazing time. even if we had to stop at one point... but we will walk the last part for sure one day or even try it again from the beginning.
